DUNCAN-WILLIAMS AND EASTWOOD ANABA RESIGN FROM NATIONAL CATHEDRAL BOARD OVER LACK OF ESSENTIAL AUDIT

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba have officially stepped down from their positions on the Board of Trustees overseeing the construction of the National Cathedral. Their decision comes as a result of the government’s failure to appoint an independent accounting firm to conduct a thorough audit of all public funds contributed to the project.

Earlier this year, the two clergymen called for the project to be suspended and a financial audit to be conducted due to the controversies surrounding it. They believed that a suspension would allow for transparency and accountability to be provided to the Ghanaian people. In a memo to the Board of Trustees, they requested an independent audit of the project’s expenses.

However, in their recent joint statement, the preachers express disappointment that their request has not been addressed, leading them to resign from the project board. They emphasize that their actions are not meant to question the vision or intent of the National Cathedral, but rather to ensure that the project is carried out with integrity, efficiency, and quality, while maintaining the trust and support of the public.

The National Cathedral of Ghana is an intended interdenominational Christian cathedral that is set to be constructed in Accra, as a component of Ghana’s 60th anniversary commemoration. The architectural blueprint for the cathedral was publicly revealed by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, on March of 2018.
