NATIONAL CATHEDRAL’S DIRECTOR REFUTES CLAIMS BY DUNCAN-WILLIAMS AND EASTWOOD ANABA

Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral Project, has responded to the resignations of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the founder and General Overseer of the United Denominations of Action Chapel Churches Worldwide, and Rev. Eastwood Anaba, the President of the Eastwood Anaba Ministries, from the Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing the construction of the Cathedral.

In their resignation letter dated Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the two clergymen stated that they were stepping down due to the Board’s refusal to conduct an audit of the project. They also claimed that they had not received any updates since their request for an audit in January 2023.

However, Dr. Opoku-Mensah clarified in a press statement on October 17 that an ongoing audit was already being conducted by Deloitte. He explained that numerous meetings had taken place following the call for an audit, and all relevant information had been provided to the respected clergymen, rendering their claims false.

Dr. Opoku-Mensah further stated, “The engagement letter for Deloitte to officially commence the audit was drafted and signed by Deloitte on March 27, 2023, and set up on their system on May 17, 2023. The expectation was for the first phase of the audit to be completed in July 2023. The auditors, Deloitte, can confirm the progress of the audit thus far.”

He added, “The Board was consistently updated on the audit process through the Chairman, the Steering Committee, and the Executive Director’s reports during Board meetings.”

Although Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba were not present at the June 2023 and September 2023 meetings, they, along with all other Board members who were not physically present, were provided with copies of all relevant documents, including the Executive Director’s report, Dr. Opoku-Mensah claimed.
