PASTOR PLEADS GUILTY TO RUNNING OVER ESTRANGED WIFE, AND HACKING HER TO DEATH WITH A MACHETE

A New York City pastor who ran over his estranged wife and hacked her with a machete, leaving her dead, pleaded guilty to manslaughter last Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Victor Mateo, 65, will be sentenced to 23 years behind bars over the May 2019 killing of Noelia Mateo, 58, outside her home, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office.

According to investigations, Mateo parked his vehicle near Noelia’s home, and as she left her house to drive her grandchildren to school, he struck her with his vehicle. The victim hid beneath her car, and Mateo got into her vehicle and ran her over with it. He then hacked her with a machete. The attack is said to have taken place in front of her two grandchildren, who were then 11 and 9-years-old. Noelia died soon after at the Jacobi Medical Center.

Mateo, a one-time pastor at the Christian Congregation The Redeemer Church, fled after the attack to Pennsylvania, where he was later arrested.
